Saying: "Yes" to the Dress-Dr. Don DeForge

Saying "Yes"....to the Dress
DH DeForge, VMD   07June2014

Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta is an American reality television series on TLC which follows events at Bridals by Lori in the Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs. The series shows the progress of individual sales associates, managers, and fitters at the store, along with profiling brides as they search for the perfect wedding dress

Saying "Yes" to the Dress is a very common finding in society.  We want everything to be perfect; we want everyone to acknowledge our physical condition [i.e. physical beauty]; and we want to be accepted.

Saying "Yes" to the Dress is always one of the highlights of a lifetime.  It is a memory etched within the bride's soul.  But is this the only meaning?

Responsibility of any kind can seem intimidating and for this reason man may often be afraid of truly deep relationships with other human beings. A relationship suggests to him the most extreme of responsibilities. It implies a burden, a restriction of freedom, seldom the converse. A student in love class, for instance, commented, “I’ve always been afraid of deep relationship because of the responsibility it seemed to impose. I was afraid of the demands it would make of me and I worried I wouldn’t be able to meet those demands. I was amazed to find that when I did get the courage to form a relationship, I actually became stronger. I acquired two minds instead of one, four hands, four arms, four legs, and another’s world. In joining forces with someone, I got twice the strength to grow, with twice as many alternatives. Now it’s easier for me to love others. I am stronger and I am less afraid.” He had discovered an important insight. ~ Leo Buscaglia Quotes from Love

Saying "Yes"....to the Dress carries with it........ a major responsibility.  When you are saying "Yes" to.....It could be yes....I will love you.....it may be yes I will be your friend for life....and it may be that as the caretaker of the companion [i.e. pet] that you love....you will always be there to help assure a quality of life without pain.

If our "Yes" is only about ourselves we have lost the meaning of the "Yes"! We will never see the sun rise or the sun set because we are pre-occupied with our own vanity and self-importance.  We will see life as a time to collect money and never share gifts with others.  Our vacations will be self-centered and only to be utilized for pleasure and not to make others happy.  "Yes" has many faces....we choose the face it will form and the face that it will personify us in our lives.

So what really  does it mean to say "Yes" to the dress.  Of course, it is the preparation and expectation of a special wedding.  But saying "Yes" is so much more.  It is being a friend to all that need you; it is listening to those that are in pain and need your help desperately; it is a simple smile; a morning hello; and just being there when someone is lost.
Saying 'Yes" is a major responsibility in life.  It is not for everyone.  Most would rather stick to their rigid schedules and not take the time to make a difference in someone else's life.
Many ask why is this so important?  The answer is quite simple:

“It's not enough to have lived. We should be determined to live for something.
May I suggest that it be creating joy for others, sharing what we have for the betterment of personkind, bringing hope to the lost and love to the lonely.”

So tonight or today, whenever you read this blog, let us bring hope to the lost and love to the lonely.  Let us do it with an open heart with joy and passion.
