A Commentary by Dr. Don DeForge:
A Hall of Fame basketball player; a world famous entrepreneur; and an educator. They are all very different yet they all speak about their journey in a very similar language.
Readers of my blogs know that Dr. Leo Buscaglia influenced my life in a major way. Take time and do not glance at the above quotes but read them very carefully.
When I counsel young people, I am amazed that their primary passion is getting to their ultimate professional vocaton as fast as they can. They talk about hating their present jobs and feel they have wasted time and education and find themselves in a loop of dissatisfaction. Rohn talks about reaching your maximum potential. The tree symbolism is quite powerful.
Take a moment this next week and sit and listen to your child; a co-worker; a fellow student or someone who is just discouraged. You cannot change their lives but you can have them read the quotes of three famous men found in this blog. You can be the nudge of inspiration but you are not the driver of change. The nudge can sometimes excite and help those who feel lost to realize that we all fail in life.....what we do about failure is the key.
In a book Dedication I once quoted Booker T. Washington:
