He is a brilliant diagnostician and t he show revolves around his interactions with the local Cornish villagers. Despite his medical brilliance, Doc Martin is grouchy and bad-mannered, and lacks social skills.  He marries the local school teacher and they have a child.  The baby and his lovely wife become a bridge of love and change Doc Martin as he struggles to find himself.
